TIMBo BIWOC held space for BIPOC community: Tuesdays
Time & Location
About The Event
At the threshold of this holiday season, with the combination of covid-19, racial reckoning, pressure to get back to "normal" from the powers that be, building collective grief, and failed connection to ourselves / others, it is clear we need held space of our own. To be held even as so many of us are holding. So it is in such a time as this we invite you to join us as we hold space, 60 minutes, that enables you to:
- recognize & respond to your body's needs
- tap into your body's natural stress reducing abilities
- feel more connected & less alone
What to expect
TIMBo Trauma-responsive Innovations for Mind Body is a workbook-based, body-centred methodology that addresses the symptoms of trauma and chronic stress in the body. The main offering, a 9 or 17 session closed circle, includes mindful discussion, gentle asana-based movement, breath practices and guided meditation. This is a 60 minute drop-in, themed version of those sessions.
The tools we focus on using are simple and available to most of us, yet accessing them alone is not easy, and in recognition of that we offer/create these circles as touchstones to remind us and gift us space to reconnect, remember, experience our truth and collective power.
After sharing a little of who we are and what we are bringing with us, we start by sharing some of the tools and a little on why we use them the way we do: breath-work, movement, cultivating awareness, acceptance, and space. Those of us who can speak to the experience of using them do.
This is an embodied practice, during our interactive conversations, we frequently pause and redirect ourselves back to our body sensations. We also create and highlight moments to practice the tools together.
Participation does not require any previous experience, specialized equipment, or even speaking. This space is held by us for us, meaning, while there are at least two of us committed to keeping the space, we all do what we can to be as present as possible, and trust that each of us honors our respective responsibility to doing what is right for us in any given moment.
